What is the difference between blueberries, bilberries and wild blueberries?
There is no difference between blueberries and bilberries (the fruit is only called differently depending on the region, but they are one and the same).
The term "wild blueberries" is not legally protected. Interpretations vary between blueberries harvested in the wild and special species. The UN marketing standard and the guidelines for fruit products differentiate between wild blueberries (Vaccinum myrtillus L.) and cultivated blueberries (Vaccinum corymbosum L.).
Our supplier has informed us that its wild blueberries are not derived from European wild blueberries (with coloured flesh) but from Canadian blueberries (with light-coloured flesh) and therefore also have light-coloured flesh.
